Hyderabad: Days after four persons lost their lives due to electrocution, the latest incident being in the Lal Bazar locality, power supply officials have urged people to be extremely vigilant during natural calamities, severe storms and heavy rains.

They should call the TGSPDCL helpline 1912 if they notice any snapped electrical wires, fallen electric poles or other hazardous electrical situations. Authorities have also appealed to people not to attempt to touch, remove or repair electrical wires or other electrical equipment on their own. Such actions can lead to fatal accidents, the TGSPDCL cautioned.

On the tragic incident at Lal Bazar, in which a man and his daughter were electrocuted, the officials said that due to the severe storm and strong winds that occurred at approximately 2.45 a.m. on Friday, several trees were uprooted across various parts of Greater Hyderabad. A large tree fell on a parked car near House No. 1-30-24/7, Road No. 7, Telecom Colony under Lal Bazar Section limits. As a result, a streetlight power cable also snapped and fell onto the car along with the tree branches.

Three individuals attempting to move the car to a safer location noticed the snapped live wire. The car owner’s wife, Mrs Sandeep, attempted to move the wire aside and suffered an electric shock. Immediately, Sandeep and his daughter Ritika, who tried to rescue her, also received electric shocks. Unfortunately, Sandeep and Ritika lost their lives, while his wife survived and is now out of danger.

The TGSPDCL said power supply officials had disconnected the power supply to the transformer concerned immediately after receiving information about the incident. The officials were otherwise actively engaged in power restoration and repair works in the area due to the emergency conditions caused by the severe storm.
