Hyderabad: Engineering students of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) will be allowed to do practicals and also appear for the practical examinations either in the university affiliated colleges nearest to their hometowns or in the parent college.
This provision will be given to students at the end of this semester in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The university communicated this to all engineering college managements during an online academic review meeting held from November 2 to 4.
“We have asked principals of all engineering colleges to allow students of other colleges to do experiments and also appear for the practical examinations in their colleges. Students can either choose the parent college or a university affiliated college nearest to their hometowns.
This provision will be given to students in the last 20 days of this semester. Some practicals can be done online and students can opt for the same. However, all students must appear for practical exams in the college itself. The colleges have responded positively,” a senior official said.
During the meeting, the college managements have informed the university that 70 to 90 per cent students were attending online classes in various courses. Fifty per cent syllabus in the autonomous colleges and 40-45 per cent syllabus in the rural colleges has been completed so far. “We have asked college managements to take remedial classes for students in the classes where absenteeism is more. These classes can be conducted in the evening. We also asked colleges to share video content or power point presentations with the students,” official said.
The colleges have apprised the university that they were geared up for conducting the classes for the first-year students starting from December 1. “Offline classes will commence only after the State government grants permission for the same. Until such time, online classes will continue to be held,” official added.
