Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a cab driver killed his wife by strangulation and later cut the body into pieces before dumping them into the Musi River.
The victim Swathi (22) was married a year and a half ago to Mahender Reddy (27), both natives of Kamareddyguda in Vikarabad and residing at Balaji Hills in Boduppal.
According to DCP (Malkajgiri), PV Padmaja, the couple Swathi and Mahender hailed from different castes and got married despite opposition from their families.
Mahender worked as a cab driver while Swathi was working in a call centre. “On Friday, Swathi, who was pregnant, asked Mahender to drop her at her parents’ house at Vikarabad. However, Mahender was against it and a quarrel started between them,” she said.
On Saturday morning, Mahender left the house around 11 am and returned at 4 pm. On the way, he purchased an axial blade and kept it with him.
“Mahender beat his wife and strangled her, and using the blade, cut the body into parts. He then kept the body parts in different plastic covers and dumped them into Musi,” said the official.
The police said Mahender kept the parts of the body in small packets and went three times to Musi to dispose of them to avoid any suspicion in the locality.
He later made a phone call to his sister, Chandrakala, informing her that Swathi had gone missing. Chandrakala, in turn, alerted a relative, Goverdhan Reddy, who stays at Dilsukhnagar.
“Goverdhan took Mahender to the Uppal police station to make a complaint. The Uppal police, on grounds of jurisdiction, took Mahender to Medipally police station, where on questioning, he admitted to having killed his wife,” said the DCP.
The police teams then rushed to Mahender’s house and started the investigation. “Protocols were followed to collect evidence from the spot and we are coordinating with the GHMC and DRF team to retrieve the parts of the body from Musi,” said the official.
A case is registered against Mahender under Sections of BNS and an investigation is going on. “This case will be reviewed as a gruesome killing. Evidence will be collected, including DNA samples,” said Padmaja.
