Pressure mounts on Pawan Kalyan as Congress Ministers follow Jagadish Reddy in demanding apology
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan is facing mounting pressure from Telangana leaders to issue an unconditional apology for his controversial "evil eye" remarks. Threats of banning his films in Telangana and calls for Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s response have intensified the political row.
Hyderabad: Pressure is mounting on Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to tender an unconditional apology to Telangana for his “evil eye” remarks. While former Minister and senior BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy had first demanded an apology, Congress leaders and Ministers are now following suit.
Jagadish Reddy had raised objections to the comments by the actor-turned-politician, stating that it was unfortunate that people with limited knowledge were becoming Deputy Chief Ministers.
It was then the turn of Congress MLA from Jadcherla J Anirudh Reddy, who raised objections over Pawan Kalyan’s statements and on Tuesday, Congress Ministers came out demanding that the AP Deputy Chief Minister tender an apology to Telangana.
Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy even went to the extent of threatening that Pawan Kalyan’s movies would not be screened in Telangana unless he apologised to the people of the State.
BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to respond to his Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks.
“It is inappropriate to make comments that could trigger differences between the two Telugu States. Pawan Kalyan should immediately withdraw his comments and apologise to Telangana,” Prabhakar said.
TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud also condemned the Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks.
