Hyderabad: A total of 791 students received their degrees during XVI convocation ceremony of the Osmania University College for Women (OUCW), Koti, held on the college campus here on Wednesday. Eight gold medals were also presented to the meritorious students on the occasion.
Addressing the graduating students, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy went down memory lane and recalled how she wanted to study in the OUCW, but could not secure a seat. She exhorted parents to accord top priority to the education of the girl child.
On the appeal of the OUCW authorities to turn the college into a Women’s University and an additional hostel facility on the campus to accommodate more students, the Minister promised that she would talk to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao regarding the same.
Telangana State Council of Higher Education Chairman Prof R Limbadri said the OUCW has been chosen as one of the colleges for implementing a cluster system which allows students to migrate from one college to another college and opt for courses within the system. The guidelines for cluster system would be released and implementation would soon commence, he said.
Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof D Ravinder requested the State government to turn the OUCW into Telangana’s first Women’s University.
Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation, joint managing director, Hephsiba R Korlapati, an alumna of the OUCW, recollected her college days and urged the students to dream big and achieve success in life. OUCW principal Prof Vijjulatha also spoke on the occasion.
