Hyderabad: Protests erupted across Telangana against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on the conception of Telangana. Elected representatives from TRS, Congress and other political parties except BJP along with students, farmers, and employees held demonstrations wearing black dresses, badges, headbands and scarves.

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister had said in Rajya Sabha that BJP was not against the formation of Telangana, but the way it happened was objectionable. He also termed the State formation as unscientific, triggering backlash from people of Telangana.

In protest, the TRS leaders took out motorcycle rallies in all the mandal and Assembly constituency headquarters across the State. In Hyderabad, TRS leaders along with students staged demonstration at Telangana Martyrs Memorial and released black balloons into the sky. They staged rastarokos at major junctions of various towns and burnt the effigies of Modi.

TRS MPs held a protest at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament premises and raised slogans against Modi and the BJP.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao demanded that the Prime Minister must justify as how the passage of the Farm Laws bills was democratic and scientific, despite the ruling BJP not having adequate majority in the Rajya Sabha and the entire Opposition parties objecting to it. He wondered how the passage of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill which received consent from a total 33 parties including the then ruling Congress and the main opposition BJP, can be termed undemocratic and unscientific.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) also held protests and burnt Narendra Modi’s effigies across the State on Tuesday after the Prime Minister’s reply to the Motion of Thanks in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. TPCC president and MP A Revanth Reddy accused the Prime Minister of insulting the people of Telangana by making ‘baseless’ and ‘irrelevant’ references to the State during his speech. “He is an illiterate and totally ignorant of these procedures. I doubt whether he is capable of reading even ABCD,” said Reddy.
