Khammam: Telangana Rythu Sangham district secretary Bontu Rambabu on Monday alleged that US Vice President JD Vance‘s visit was aimed at capturing the Indian agricultural market.

The Rythu Sangham activists staged a protest at Wyra Agricultural Market office in the district on Monday as part of a countrywide protest and displayed placards that said ‘Vance Go Back’ and ‘India is Not for Sale’.

Speaking on the occasion, Rambabu said that after US President Donald Trump took office for the second time, he was trying hard to export American agricultural products to India in the pretext of trade taxes and duties.

He said that the Indian government had already filed a case in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for fixing the minimum support price for agricultural products. If the Indian government surrenders to the pressure of American trade taxes, agriculture in India would be thrown into further crisis.

Rambabu said that people were protesting against Trump’s economic and trade tax policy in America and they were worried about cotton imports from America. Already there was a surge in the import of cotton from America.

If India lowers tariffs on American agricultural products, imports of rice, wheat, corn, milk and rice would increase from the US and the prices of agricultural products in India would decrease affecting farmers, he noted.

Sangham leaders Bhukya Veerabham, Ch Chalapathi Rao, Meda Sarabandhi, Tummala John Papaiah, Banala Krishnamachari, Sankranti Purushotham and others were present.
