Pune: Residents held a protest march in Pune on Sunday against the use of high-decibel sound amplification systems, popularly known as DJs, during festivals.

The protesters raised slogans demanding a complete ban on such systems, asserting that every citizen has the right to peace and protection from noise pollution.

Those participating in the march, organised at Balgandharva Rang Mandir, questioned why a ban on DJs could not be implemented in Pune when authorities have made similar announcements in cities such as Solapur and Nagpur.

At a public meeting held after the march, speakers alleged that Pune Police had failed to control excessive noise levels during the Dahi Handi celebrations held on Saturday.

The march proceeded to the Pune Municipal Corporation headquarters and was organised by the Loudspeaker Opposition Pune Citizens’ Forum following the recent assault on activist Vidyanand Bapat, who has been advocating a ban on DJs to curb noise pollution.
