Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar has stepped in to address the shortage of antiviral drug, Remdesivir, used in the treatment of Covid-19 patients, in the district.
With shortage of Remdesivir vials causing hindrance in the treatment of Covid patients, he persuaded Hetero Labs, which manufactures Remdesivir under the brand name, Covifor, to supply 1,100 vials every day to private hospitals in the district.
Ajay Kumar recently held elaborate discussions with the chairman of Hetero Group of Companies Dr B Partha Saradhi Reddy, who hails from the district, urging him to deliver adequate quantity of vials for Covid-19 treatment here.
Following the discussions, Hetero Labs consented to provide the required quantity of vials. Every private hospital with 30 beds in the district would be supplied the injections directly from Hetero Labs. As many as 37 hospitals here have identified with a fixed allocation of the drug.
A stockist would be set up to supply the injections to hospitals with under 30 beds through the stockist under the supervision of the Minister, District Collector and the government Task Force, said a statement from the Minister here on Sunday.
A total of 10,000 Remdesivir vials have already being supplied to government hospitals. With an additional supply of 1,100 injections, there would be no shortage of the injections, and hence people need not worry and buy them at high prices, Ajay Kumar said.
Directions had already been issued to the health officials and district administration to ensure that the injections were sold at MRP. If the injections were sold at higher price, the public could lodge complaints by calling the collectorate helpline number: 1077, police emergency number: 100 or Khammam Urban tahsildar’s number: 9849906095, he said.
