Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based RACEnergy, an electric vehicle infrastructure company that develops its own swappable battery packs, EV retrofit kits and a network of battery swapping stations has become one of the first companies in India to receive the AIS 156 safety certification for its swappable battery packs.
Safety of battery packs is a key proponent for adoption of electric mobility in the country, and this standard is set to come into effect soon for all automotive Li-ion batteries in India.
Certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), this is on par with the highest acceptable global safety standards for EV batteries. Put through rigorous testing, the batteries are certified resistant to extreme conditions including thermal and mechanical shocks, fire, impacts and short circuits.
The company’s batteries are manufactured in-house and come with their own swappable connectors which is a proprietary technology of RACE. This enables them to hot swap their batteries without any manual intervention of plugging in the battery.
Founded by Arun Sreyas and Gautham Maheswaran, alumni of BITS Pilani, this Hyderabad based company’s vision is to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in India by focusing on developing the best technology for electric two and three-wheelers.
Over three years, the company has honed the technology to best suit the Indian driving conditions and fit customer expectations, starting from advanced electric powertrains for retrofitting existing ICE vehicles, providing energy as a service through its swappable battery packs and a network of battery swapping stations.
