Hyderabad: A total of 53 homeless persons were rescued under Aadarana, an initiative to support destitute, mentally disabled and orphans launched by the Ranga Reddy District Legal Services Authority jointly with the Rachakonda Police.

As part of the drive, volunteers identify destitute persons in an area and the next day with the help of Police and District Welfare Office relocate them to a shelter home. Prior to shifting to the shelter home with the cooperation of the medical officials, Covid tests are also conducted. So far, only one person was found to be Covid-19 positive during a rescue drive in Uppal who was shifted to Ramanthapur isolation centre.

The others are accommodated in government shelter homes, old age homes and under various NGOs. The special drive was conducted first in Saroornagar, wherein 12 persons were rescued and rehabilitated. So far, 53 destitute persons have been rescued. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said the initiative would be taken up across all police station limits in Rachakonda.
