Rahul Gandhi betrayed Telangana, complicit with BJP: KTR

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for betraying the people of Telangana during his one-year tenure as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

He criticised Gandhi for failing to raise any of Telangana’s key issues in Parliament and hold the Modi government accountable on various issues including the unfulfilled promises of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

In a statement, Rama Rao charged Rahul Gandhi with turning a blind eye to Andhra Pradesh’s controversial Banakacherla project, which threatens to divert Godavari waters away from Telangana farmers. He said the Congress leader’s silence on the Banakacherla project was an indication of his complicity.

“Rahul Gandhi stood by as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy handed over Telangana’s rightful share of the Godavari River water to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and his mentor N Chandrababu Naidu,” he said.

The BRS working president said Rahul Gandhi conspired with the BJP to suppress the rights of Telangana and failed to speak up on critical issues affecting the State.

“From national status to an irrigation project to the Bayyaram steel plant and other promises, Rahul Gandhi has not once raised Telangana’s burning issues,” he said, adding that the failure of the Congress to act against the Centre’s Singareni conspiracy and Kazipet Coach Factory snub proves Gandhi’s complete apathy toward Telangana.

He said Rahul Gandhi had neither raised Telangana’s issues in Parliament nor showed his face to the people of the State after the elections.

“After peddling hollow 420 promises in Telangana’s Assembly polls, he vanished like a shadow, leaving Congress to bask in power while Telangana’s aspirations rot,” he added.
