Railway app supports digital payments now, 3 per cent cash back offered on using R-Wallet

Railways has introduced the sytem of digital payments on its UTS app. Now passengers can buy journey tickets and platforms tickets from anywhere and avoid standing in queues at the railway stations

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced the facility of online payment through any digital modes using any of the UPIs on its UTS app for buying of tickets. The passengers can use any modes like R- Wallet, Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, UPI Apps or through internet banking etc. The R-Wallet will be available in UTS app in which the amount can be deposited up to the limit of Rs 20, 000. As a promotional gesture,a three per cent cash back is being given on the tickets purchased through R- Wallet.

A SCR press release said on Tuesday that UTS App received a positive response from rail users and the number of passengers utilizing the app has been increasing. The share of unreserved tickets booked through mobile app has been steadily increasing with the initiatives of the zone. The average passengers in a day availing the UTS mobile App facility in 2023 – 24 from April to January was 83,510 while the average passengers per day in the current financial year 2024-25 is 93,487, which denotes 12% increase in the usage of UTS App for purchasing tickets.
The distance restrictions imposed initially for purchase of general tickets have been relaxed and the rail users are being able to purchase the tickets from any location. In simple terms, the passenger can book their tickets (both journey / platform tickets) from their home itself and board the train without standing in long queues for purchasing the Unreserved Tickets.
People with a smart phone of Android, IOS and Windows versions of operating system can download the app free of cost. The UTS app is user friendly and consists of various key features such as Multi Language Support, Cashless transactions and Help tab which provides different kinds of customer support including step by step guide on how to use the app, helpline numbers and Frequently Asked Questions, the press release added.
