Adilabad: Heavy rains receded in erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday, bringing relief to the public. Farmers were overjoyed by the heavy rains that occurred after a gap of three weeks. They intensified farming operations such as removing weeds and transplantation of saplings with the respite in rains. Educational institutions functioned normally in Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts on Saturday.

Road connectivity was restored in rural parts of the four districts. Rural people were seen arriving in mandal centres and towns to buy groceries. Tribals from villages under ITDA-Utnoor (Integrated Tribal Development Agency–Utnoor) and Bejjur mandal found relief with downpours receding.

Similarly, coal mining and removal of overburden resumed in opencast mining projects of SCCL (Singareni Collieries Company Limited) under Srirampur, Mandamarri and Goleti regions. Irrigation projects that received copious inflows cheered farmers. Growers of paddy expressed happiness over the heavy rains. They said that they would be able to raise paddy, cotton, soy and other crops with the help of the showers.

The region saw incessant rains for three days in a row from Wednesday to Friday, disrupting normal life. Roads and causeways were damaged, while houses were caved in due to the heavy rains. Cattle were also killed when a cowshed collapsed in Adilabad. The loss of property was being assessed, officials said.

Marsakola Parubai (45), a social security pension beneficiary from Chamanapalli village was allegedly swept away in swirling waters of a flooding stream after attempting to cross it at Ervachintal village in Khanapur mandal on Wednesday.
