Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Rallies and distribution of material to residents for alternative livelihood marked International Tiger Day or Global Tiger Day in different parts of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on Thursday. Authorities of the Forest Department distributed three sewing machines, two bicycles and a volleyball kit to residents for alternative livelihood and to reduce dependency on forests at Addaghat village in Asifabad mandal, under Rebbena forest range.
Chief Conservator of Forests Ramalingam was the chief guest of the event. He was joined by District Forest Officer S Shantharam. Ramalingam said that the balance in ecology was possible only with the protection of tigers. He expressed concerns over challenges before conservation of forests in the conversations of the carnivores, caused by encroachment of forest lands for agriculture. He said that prevention of decimation of the wild for various needs was the only solution.
The IFS officer further said that bamboo trees were being grown on the outskirts of the village to ensure livelihood to rural folks and help them achieve financial empowerment. Forest Range Officer Purnima, Deputy Range Officer (DyRO) Sridhar Chary, Forest Section Officer Dinesh Kumar, Forest Beat Officers Ramesh, Manga and Manohar were present.
In Bejjur mandal headquarters, Forest Range Officer Dayakar and his staffers took out a forest march to mark the occasion. He underlined the need to protect the big cats which play a key role in the ecosystem. He requested the public not to harm the carnivores and sought their cooperation in conservation of the national animal.
In the meantime, Kaghaznagar Forest Divisional Officer Vijay Kumar, Penchikalpet Forest Range Officer S Venugopal, DyROs G Ramadevi and Prabhakar gave away six sewing machines to women at remote Agarguda village in Penchikalpet mandal to mark the International Tiger Day. Forest Beat Officers Narayana and Giribabu and Sarpanch Sudhakar attended the event.
