Hyderabad: Ramakant of NYSC continued his dominant streak, finishing the day with a nett score of 19.0 after six races, while Ankit Singh Sisodiya (NSS) and Preet Siwal (NYSC) finished second and third in the ILCA 4 (boys) category of the YAI fifth Secunderabad Club Tiscon Youth Open Regatta championship at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Monday.
The morning session saw strong winds once again — gusting up to 25 knots — mirroring the intensity of the first day. However, conditions gradually eased by the afternoon, allowing for smoother racing. Notably, the Optimist Green Fleet, which couldn’t complete races yesterday, successfully sailed all three scheduled races today in the improving conditions.
In the ILCA 4 (girls), Aastha Pandey (NSS) sailed steadily in the light winds to lead the table, followed by Tulsi Patle (NSS) and Katyayani Kaushik (INWTC).
In the Optimist Green Fleet, after missing the first day due to high winds, 36 young sailors of the Green Fleet took full advantage of today’s more favorable conditions.
Yuvaraj (TSC) delivered three strong finishes and now tops the fleet with just 4.0 points. Adrin Antony (TSC) and V Hanumanthu (TSA) rounded out the top three.
Among the girls, Sonia Brar (CESC) and Elijsha M Mommin (USC) broke into the top 10, highlighting the increasing participation and rising talent in girls’ sailing.
In the Optimist Main Fleet, Mohd Rizwan (NYSC) remained the one to beat, extending his lead with a nett score of 10.0 after six races. Bongur Bunny (TSC) and Krishna Venkitachalam (RMYC) held on to second and third places respectively.
In the girls’ section, Shringari Roy (SSC) continued to shine, sitting 9th overall and leading among girls. Sai Rameeza Bhanu stayed strong in the top 15, close behind.
“Today’s conditions in the morning were as challenging as yesterday with gusts up to 25 knots,” said Chandrashekar, Principal Race Officer.
“Once the wind eased in the afternoon, we seized the opportunity to conduct all three races for the Optimist Green Fleet. It was encouraging to watch our youngest sailors get their well-deserved chance to race and adapt beautifully to the shifting weather,” he explained.
