While five died on the spot, a young man succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday.
The incident took place at Gokhale Nagar when the vehicle pulling the decorated chariot broke down. A group of youths began pushing the chariot manually, during which it allegedly came into contact with overhead live electric wires, causing a fatal shock to nine people.
Five victims were declared dead by doctors upon being rushed to hospital. They were identified as Krishna Yadav (21), Suresh Yadav (34), Srikanth Reddy (35), Rudra Vikas (39) and Rajendra Reddy (15).
On Monday afternoon, Ganesh (21), one of the four injured, passed away while undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital, raising the death toll to six.
The remaining three injured, including V Srinivas, the gunman of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, are in stable condition at a private hospital.
The Uppal police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Tension prevailed in the locality as residents alleged negligence on the part of the electricity department and government for lack of repairs and maintenance, which they said resulted in the loss of six lives.
