Hyderabad: With the Ramzan festival a fortnight away, heavy rush is being witnessed at markets across the city with local people and those from neighbouring States heading for Ramzan shopping.
The markets in the old city attract lakhs of visitors each day in the run-up to the festival. People shop for traditional embroidered sarees and dresses, men’s and kids’ wear, footwear including Kolhapuri chappals, Peshawari sandals and jhooti, crockery, bangles, henna and other festival accessories.
“Fresh stocks have arrived at the stores for Ramzan. The prices are competitive due to tough competition in the market, and people can take advantage of the situation,” said Mohd Azam, owner of a women’s dress store.
Traders source goods from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi for the festival. Every festival season, new designs are introduced in the market. “People can choose from a huge variety of stock available at the shops,” said Mohd Ishtiyaq, another trader.
Exhibitions are also being organised at various function halls at Attapur, Gudimalkapur and Tolichowki that are drawing crowds too. A few individuals have organised the exhibitions by renting out small spaces to businessmen.
“Our aim is to provide all the accessories at one place. Here you can find dresses, footwear, bangles, jewellery and food. It is a one-stop shopping destination,” said an organiser.
