Hyderabad markets buzz with Eid al-Fitr shopping rush
Markets across Hyderabad are witnessing heavy crowds as Eid al-Fitr approaches. Apart from Charminar and Madina Building, shopping hubs like Tolichowki, Abids, Bangladesh Market and Hafiz Babanagar are attracting shoppers with festive clothing, jewellery and accessories at competitive prices.
Hyderabad: With the celebration of Eid al-Fitr festival fast approaching, markets across the city are flooded with shoppers from dusk to dawn.
While the lively markets around Charminar and Madina Building are a must-visit for Eid shopping, several other markets across the city have gained importance for their durable merchandise available at a competitive price.
The Tolichowki market spread around the Tolichowki Road, Janakinagar, Hakimpet and Qutb Shahi Tombs is witnessing a huge footfall. “The area was popular only for its eateries. Now, umpteen stores of popular brands have come up here where one can buy designer clothes for men, women and children. Also, there are footwear, crockery and home furnishing stores,” said Syed Nadeem, owner of a store at Tolichowki.
The business hours here start from 3 pm and continue until the next morning. “People from IT corridor, Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills, and Shaikpet visit the market during the festival,” said Mohd Shukoor, manager at a shop.
A few kilometres away is the age-old Abid Road market, popularly called Abid’s Road. “Several stores have come up here over a period of time, trading in readymade apparel, designer wear, footwear, women’s accessories and also a few malls. The place was reinvented over a period of time and holds prominence among the citizens,” said Abdul Khadeer, a local businessman.
In the eastern side of the city, there is a bustle at the Bangladesh market at Musheerabad. The market is popular for sarees, readymade suits, men’s wear, handbags, imitation jewellery and a host of other festive merchandise available at throwaway prices.
In the southern end of the city, at Hafiz Babanagar, the main road is closed for traffic. Thanks to the Ramzan market, around 200 shops, including 50 exclusive selling bangles, witness a huge crowd in the run-up to the festival.
“Shoppers throng the market in the last ten days of Ramzan month. Due to the huge rush at Charminar, people are coming here to shop. Prices are affordable and the quality is superior,” claims Mohd Fayaz, owner of a women’s wear shop.
