Hyderabad: Former Indian cricketer and Team India head coach Ravi Shastri inaugurated the Coaching Beyond, centre of excellence for Cricket in association with the St John’s Sports Coaching Foundation in the city, on Thursday.
The academy will have Ravi Shastri, former Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar as partners along with John Manoj of the St John’s Sports Coaching Foundation. Shastri revealed that they will be associated with the academy at personal level and will be part of the developmental programme for the trainees of the academy. Speaking at the inauguration of the academy, Ravi Shastri revealed that the academy will provide best of facilities to the upcoming players.
“John (Manoj) has been involved with this place for the last 30 years. Our endeavor here is to give the opportunity to young players to enhance their skills while keeping things simple, yet at the same time, ready to push the bar and strive to reach excellence. This is the facility that will give you a great opportunity to become champions. We will teach work ethics, discipline that will help you in all walks of life. Sridhar and Manoj have done a great job with the setting up of the academy,” he said.
Indoor facilities at the academy, John Manoj Indoor Arena, was also inaugurated by RT REV AC Solomon Raj CSI Medak Diocese. John Manoj said that the academy, which was set up in 1987 by Narasimha Rao has a rich history of producing 45 Ranji cricketers and five internationals players. He also hoped that the academy would produce more champions in the future. Meanwhile, Indian Test cricketer G Hanuma Vihari’s mother Vijayalaxmi presented a cheque for Rs 2 lakh and said she would fund the training of 10 kids from the underprivileged, at the academy.
