Recognise new National Highways in Telangana: TRS MPs
Since State formation, roads covering 3,306 km had been identified as State Highways, of which 2,168 km have been identified as National Highways so far.
Khammam: A delegation of TRS MPs, led by party floor leader in Lok Sabha Nama Nageswara Rao, submitted a petition to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi seeking the release of CRF funds for the construction of National Highways in Telangana and recognition of new National Highways.
The MP urged the Minister that an amount of Rs 620 crore CRF funds, due to the State for 2021, to be released for construction of roads and proposals were already submitted by the State government to the Centre in this regard, a statement from the MP’s office said on Friday.
Since State formation, roads covering 3,306 km had been identified as State Highways, of which 2,168 km have been identified as National Highways so far. The remaining 1,138 km of roads have to be identified as National Highways, Nageswara Rao said.
The MP said the expansion of National Highways would help in the development of tourism in the State as well as connect the neighbouring States of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and develop the backward areas in those States. The 186-km long road connecting Choutuppal – Amangal – Shadnagar – Kandi; 165-km road connecting Karimnagar – Sircilla – Kamareddy – Ellareddy – Pitlam; 70-km road connecting Kothakota Gudur – Mantralayam; 25-km road connecting Zaheerabad – Bidar – Deglur have to be given National Highways status.
Construction of Alinagar Road on NH 167 at a cost of Rs 220 crore has been sanctioned, the MP said, suggesting that if the existing two-lane road in Miryalaguda was converted into a four-lane road, it would reduce the time limit and the financial burden.
The TRS MPs urged the Union Minister to take required steps for construction of roads in the State and recognition of National Highways at the earliest. The MPS felicitated Gadkari and thanked him for giving a green signal to the Regional Ring Road (RRR) to be constructed around Hyderabad. MPs Pothuganti Ramulu, Banda Prakash, Malothu Kavitha, Pasunuri Dayakar, Badugula Lingaya Yadav, Gaddam Ranjit Reddy, KR Suresh Reddy and BB Patil were present.
