Hyderabad: The redevelopment work on the Malakpet railway station has picked up pace, with the railway authorities planning to make it ready and usable by June 2026.
The works are being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 26.50 crore as a part of the ‘Naya Bharat Naya Station’ initiative of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) of Railway Ministry. Until now, major development work has been completed.
The facilities for train travellers planned at the redeveloped Malakpet railway station include removing unwanted structures, improved lighting, a better-circulating area, upgraded parking space, Divyangjan-friendly infrastructure, environment-friendly building using green energy, etc.
The station is being developed with modern architecture and world-class facilities and will serve as the city centre with a focus on long-term planning. Strategically located in the old city, the station falls on the Kacheguda–Falaknuma suburban route and serves passengers in and around Malakpet.
This station also has stoppages for important express trains such as the Kacheguda–Kurnool Tungabhadra Express and the Kacheguda-Guntur Express. Once the development is completed, more trains are expected to halt here, benefiting people who can board trains from here.
