Thanks to technology to help students understand the concepts better and in an easy way.
The year 1984 a special year in my life, never expected to be a pedagogue by profession steadily strolled inside the grade two classroom. All thirty-four tiny tots got up to greet me “Good Morning Teacher!”
“Can I teach? What should I explain? How do I teach these tiny tots?” These were some of the questions that bothered me. I have to help them at any cost and should be a successful mentor, decided to take up the responsibility, I started explaining to them.
My colleague, Subramanyam, my first mentor assured me and said, “Don’t worry! You can do it.”His words motivated me to take up the greatest profession, ‘an educator’. Students considered their teachers as gods and what they have taught them were words of wisdom and they blindly followed their teachers as their role models.
After completion of thirty-three successful years of teaching when I retrospect, we teachers solely depended on blackboard, chalk and the motto of imparting the right knowledge to them righteously.
Today in this virtual environment things are different and students are wise enough to browse and get more subject-related information. “Ma’am, shall I explain this concept?” I have made a PPT. Shall I share it? Can you make me the presenter?”
Thanks to technology to help students understand the concepts better and in an easy way. But can we replace a human teacher with a computer?” “Can I understand what’s happening and what’s going on in the young minds that are on the other side of the screen?” Sometimes I wonder whether I am doing justice to my profession or not.
All my apprehensions have just disappeared when they all presented a beautiful video on this year’s Teachers’ Day celebrations which were held virtually. The love, affection and reverence shown towards their teachers made me so emotional and I felt relieved of my thoughts. I thanked God for allowing me to be a mentor!
Once I was hesitant to step into the shoes of a teacher, now gradually the passion has turned out to be an obsession.
