Hyderabad: Over 250 doctors, including prominent faculty and surgical experts from across India, are participating in the AMASI Skill Course and FMAS (Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery) examination programme, which was inaugurated on Friday at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
Organised by the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI), surgeons and young doctors from various states are participating in the training, which aims to develop technical skills and modern surgical methods specifically in the field of Minimal Access or Laparoscopic Surgery.
The FMAS is a prestigious fellowship designed to evaluate a doctor’s proficiency in laparoscopic techniques through a rigorous assessment of theory, practical skills, and a viva voce.
NIMS Director, Dr Nagari Beerappa, said the AMASI skill course and FMAS are highly respected by hospitals nationwide because it focuses on surgeries that offer patients smaller incisions, reduced pain, and significantly faster recovery times.
Minimal Access Surgery is one of the most rapidly evolving and essential branches of medicine and such training programs are vital for young doctors to master these advanced procedures, Dr Beerappa added.
