Former President APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on this day in the year 2015. Popularly known as the ‘People’s President of India’ and ‘Missile Man of India’, Kalam was the third Indian President, after Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1954) and Zakir Hussain (1963) to be honoured with a Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
Several prominent people took to their social media platforms to convey remembrance of the former President. One among them is well-known sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik.
Taking to his Twitter account, the sand artist shared a picture of his incredible sand art on Puri beach representing Abdul Kalam with an Indian Flag on top of his head.
“Tributes to Common/Missile man; Student’s icon; People’s President BharatRatna Dr #APJAbdulKalam on his death anniv. I am Sharing One of My SandArt at Puribeach(sic),” he wrote along with a picture of his sand art.
Kalam collapsed and died at an age of 83 from an apparent cardiac arrest on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at IIM-Shillong. However, Kalam’s contributions to the country, his preachings of life and his humbleness will always keep him alive in people’s hearts forever.
