Hyderabad: Members of Federation of North-eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) met the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, to present its issues related to poor connectivity in north-eastern Secunderabad, on Thursday.

During their interaction with the committee members, the FNECS delegation raised their concerns regarding the problems caused to residents because of the illegal and arbitrary closure of roads by Local Military Authorities (LMA) to the civilians.

The residents living in these areas can commute through the cantonment roads to the other parts of the city. Although the Defence Ministry had decided to reopen the closed roads because they had been closed in violation of the provisions of Sec 258 of Cantonments Act 2006, back in 2018, the roads continue to be closed.

FNECS members also spoke about the need to modernise and improve the existing cantonment roads, which were of primitive design and unsafe. They requested the committee to widen these roads on par with the roads in the neighbouring municipal corporation areas.

Chairman of the Standing Committee, Jual Oram assured FNECS that they will look into the issues raised by the delegation and try to resolve them at the earliest.
