Mancherial: Residents from various colonies and retired coal miners of residential quarters found fault with the management of the State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for disconnecting power supply. They staged a rasta-roko, affecting traffic for a while, opposing the move of the coal major at the Market Road in Bellampalli on Tuesday.
The residents and retired coal miners expressed displeasure over the disconnection of electricity to the quarters handed by the SCCL to the government. They opined that it was an inhumane act by the coal major to stop the power supply to the quarters. They demanded the government to take steps to restore the electricity at the earliest.
The occupants wanted trade unions to respond to the issue and to exert pressure on the SCCL. They sought local MLA G Vinod to intervene and take steps to address the problem. They announced that they would launch a stir if the power was not restored to the quarters immediately.
Former Bellampalli MPP Thongala Mallesh, former councillor Akula Satyanaryaana, retired coal miners K Mallaiah, M Jagan, Lingaiah, Mallakka, Swapna, Rajeshwari, Ramnath, P Anil, S Shankar and many others were present.
