Retired army jawan booked for killing neighbour’s pet dog in Khammam

A retired army jawan in Khammam district has been booked for allegedly shooting dead a neighbour’s pet dog with an air gun. The incident sparked outrage among locals, who accused him of earlier causing the deaths of monkeys with electric wires installed around his garden.

Khammam: A retired army jawan was booked on charges of killing a neighbour’s pet dog with an air gun at Mutharam village of Mudigonda mandal in the district.

According to police, the accused jawan, Routhu Janaiah, who retired from service nearly 30 years ago, shot the pet dog that was playing in front of his house on Thursday. One of the locals who witnessed the incident posted a message on a local WhatsApp group.

The dog owner, Gunja Ramu, who learnt about the incident, lodged a complaint with the local police. Based on his complaint, ASI Srinivasa Rao registered a case on Friday and launched an investigation into the incident at the directions of Inspector of Police Murali.

The locals expressed outrage over the retired jawan’s action of killing an innocent animal out of anger after the pet dog wandered into his house. Locals allege that two monkeys died in the past due to electric wires which Janaiah installed to keep monkeys out of the garden in his house.
