Hyderabad: Declaring that the caste census conducted by the State government was 100 percent correct, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday urged the opposition parties to be part of an all-party delegation to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ensure legal sanctity for extending 42 percent reservations to BCs. The State government introduced the bill extending reservations to BCs, SCs and STs (Reservation of seats in Educational Institutions and of Appointments or Posts in the Services) in the Assembly on Monday. All parties, including the BRS, BJP, AIMIM and CPI extended unconditional support to the Bill and made a few recommendations to the government.

The Chief Minister said the previous government had sent a proposal to the Governor to increase BC reservations to 37 percent. This Government had withdrawn the earlier proposal and was sending a new proposal of offering 42 per cent reservation for BCs in education, employment and political opportunities, he said. Thanking the parties for their support, the Chief Minister suggested taking the required legal assistance to offer 42 percent reservations to BCs. The all party delegation should prevail on the Prime Minister to make constitutional amendments before the ongoing union budget session of the parliament, he stressed.“I request union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay to seek the Prime Minister’s appointment. Similarly, let us also request Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to raise the issue in Parliament,” Revanth Reddy said, entrusting TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud the responsibility of seeking Rahul Gandhi’s appointment.

February 4 would be observed as ‘Social Justice Day’ as the government adopted a resolution for enhancement of BC quota on this day in the Assembly, he added.
