Khammam: Going beyond his usual speeches against political rivals, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday called on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers to ensure the “political burial” of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) by demolishing the party’s flagposts and pedestals across the State.
Addressing a gathering at Maddulapalli in Palair constituency, he said such a move would be the ideal tribute to TDP founder, the late NT Rama Rao. Urging TDP cadre, who were present in large numbers waving party flags, to dismantle BRS flagposts and pedestals in villages in Telangana, he said the BRS and its chief K Chandrashekhar Rao should be “buried 100 feet under the ground” and that the responsibility of eliminating the BRS rested upon the TDP cadre.
Revanth Reddy, who joined the Congress from the TDP in 2017, alleged that the BRS had always harboured animosity towards the TDP and wanted to eliminate its presence in Telangana. Praising NT Rama Rao for his contributions to the welfare of the poor, he said NTR and former Chief Minister late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy had left an indelible mark in history for their welfare efforts. NTR was a great leader who took the self-respect of the Telugu people to the global stage, he said, adding that NTR has fans in Telangana while Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has colleagues and followers here.
Revanth Reddy’s remarks were seen as an attempt to appease TDP followers in Khammam ahead of the upcoming urban local body elections, given the party’s sizeable presence in the erstwhile Khammam district.
Meanwhile, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy had to appeal to Congress party workers to wait until the Chief Minister completed his speech, as many began leaving the venue when Revanth Reddy started his address.
