‘Revanth Reddy must go, KCR must return,’ says T Jeevan Reddy
Former Minister T Jeevan Reddy has resigned from the Congress and announced his decision to join the BRS, citing the Congress government’s failure to deliver on promises, particularly job creation and fee reimbursement for marginalised students. He accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of centralising power and ignoring party forums, while predicting a major political shift in Telangana.
Hyderabad: Former Minister T Jeevan Reddy attacked the Congress government alleging centralised power, failure to deliver on key promises, and a growing disconnect with public sentiment. He held the Congress high command responsible for the situation.
Speaking to the media after an extended meeting with BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Jeevan Reddy said the Congress high command had lost its grip over Telangana, with decision-making concentrated in the hands of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
“Earlier, Chief Ministers functioned in line with the PCC. Now, the PCC merely implements what the Chief Minister dictates,” he remarked, describing the current functioning as unilateral and dictatorial.
Intensifying his attack on the Congress government, Jeevan Reddy criticised it over its failure to ensure employment to youth.
“They promised three lakh jobs in two years including two lakh in the first year and one lakh in the second. They claimed to have filled over 67,000 posts, but only about 17,000 jobs have been delivered under Congress rule. What happened to the rest?” he asked.
The former Minister accused the Congress government of not releasing its 25 per cent share and wasting Rs 278 crore released by the Centre towards SC and ST fee reimbursement.
“Now, students and their parents from marginalised sections are being forced to pay fees. Isn’t it the government’s failure?” he asked.
He said the Congress government failed to fulfil its electoral assurances, leading to growing public disillusionment. As a result, he said a slogan was gaining traction among people. “Revanth Reddy must go, KCR must return,” he added.
Clarifying his political move, Jeevan Reddy said his decision to join the BRS was driven by public interest rather than personal ambition.
“If my intention was to secure posts, I could have joined BRS long ago when the party was in power and KCR extended the invitation in 2014 itself. Instead, I became the sole voice of the Congress in the Legislative Council. But now, I am joining to fight for the people because Congress has failed to honour its promises,” he asserted, pointing out that he was quitting the ruling party to join the opposition.
The senior leader who recently ended his decades-long association with the Congress, also accused the Telangana Congress leadership of mishandling internal issues and shifting blame onto the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
“TPCC ignored issues raised by me within the party forums and now is trying to blame AICC which is wrong. If I received the party ticket 14 times, it was because of my own capability, but not at the mercy of the State Congress leaders,” he declared.
Jeevan Reddy indicated that he would soon organise a public meeting in Jagtial to formalise his entry into the BRS. He also predicted significant political changes in the coming months, citing a clear shift in public mood against the ruling party. While sharply critical, he added that the Congress government should at least utilise its remaining tenure to work in the public interest, rather than attacking those raising voices for the people.
