Hyderabad: Former Minister T Jeevan Reddy is set to formally join the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) later this month in the presence of party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
The induction is expected to take place at a massive public meeting in Jagtial, with April 20 indicated as the tentative date. The exact date and location will be announced in a couple of days.
The announcement follows a high-profile meeting between Jeevan Reddy and the BRS chief at the latter’s Erravelli residence, signalling a decisive shift in the political landscape of north Telangana.
A day after being formally invited into the BRS by working president KT Rama Rao in Jagtial, Jeevan Reddy visited Erravelli, where he was accorded a grand welcome. Rama Rao, along with several senior leaders, received him warmly and presented a bouquet, prior to his meeting with the former Chief Minister.
The meeting witnessed visible camaraderie between the two senior leaders, with an emotionally charged atmosphere. Jeevan Reddy, who recently ended his four-decade-long association with the Congress, appeared deeply moved during the interaction.
“At a time when Telangana is facing challenges, I felt a compelling need to work alongside you. It is as if God Himself sent me with the mandate to join hands with you, Anna. I am overjoyed to finally have an opportunity with you after all these years in politics,” he said.
Chandrashekhar Rao reciprocated with warmth, embracing Jeevan Reddy and honouring him with a traditional shawl. The two leaders held detailed discussions over lunch, focusing on the timing, modalities, and political strategy surrounding the formal induction.
Party sources indicated that the Jagtial meeting would not only formalise Jeevan Reddy’s entry but also serve as a platform to address key public issues, especially those concerning farmers.
Confirming the plans after the meeting, Jeevan Reddy announced that a public meeting will be organised in Jagtial, where he will formally join the BRS. “I requested KCR garu to attend as chief guest, and he responded positively,” he said.
Senior BRS leaders Koppula Eshwar and L Ramana said the event would be marked by a large-scale mobilisation of cadres and is expected to witness a significant influx of new entrants into the party, particularly from the erstwhile Karimnagar district.
BRS leaders believe that Jeevan Reddy’s entry will significantly strengthen the party in north Telangana, given his longstanding influence and grassroots connectivity. The development also comes ahead of the party’s plenary, adding momentum to its organisational consolidation efforts.
Several BRS leaders, including former Ministers Gangula Kamalakar and Vemula Prashanth Reddy, MLA Dr K Sanjay Kumar, former MP J Santosh Kumar, and others from the undivided Karimnagar district, were present.
