Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan on Monday lashed out at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing the Congress government of overriding established laws and running Telangana through commissions, pressure and backdoor orders. He questioned the government’s bias in issuing approvals to hike movie ticket fares at its whim.

Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Sravan said the Congress government neither had a uniform policy nor was adhering to legal provisions or institutional accountability. Instead, he said, the government was harassing the film industry and institutionalising corruption.

Citing the 1955 Cinematography Act, the BRS MLC said film exhibition matters fall strictly under the District Collector’s jurisdiction. “But this government is issuing separate GOs from different departments for each film. Instead of the Cinematography Department, the Home Department is issuing ticket hike orders clearly under pressure from the Chief Minister’s Office,” he remarked.

Sravan rebuked the Congress for targeting senior BRS leader T Harish Rao, who had raised concerns about the irregularities. He said Harish Rao questioned the violations only after Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy alleged that ticket prices were being hiked without his knowledge. “Instead of answering, the Congress leaders launched personal attacks. It is deliberate and malicious,” he said.

He accused the Minister of holding a press meet as he did not get commissions. “But after his share reached him, his tone changed overnight. Nothing exposes the corruption more clearly,” he alleged.

Condemning the Congress for targeting Harish Rao instead of questioning Revanth Reddy, Sravan said the Home Department was being misused as a shield for the Chief Minister’s arbitrary decisions. He stated that the government acted with clear bias, delaying orders till the last minute, while orders for another movie were issued two days in advance.
