Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s sharp attack on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and the language used to portray him in poor light has become a topic of discussion not only in political circles but also within the Telangana Congress unit.
Of late, informal chats among Congress leaders have centred on the Chief Minister’s use of harsh language. Many feel the party’s image is taking a hit due to the Chief Minister’s rhetoric and repeated verbal attacks on the BRS chief.
“Definitely, it has become a point of discussion. Congress is known for its principles and its leaders for maintaining discipline and decorum. However, the Chief Minister’s language is not being welcomed by many,” a senior leader from Gandhi Bhavan admitted.
From his days as TPCC president, Revanth Reddy’s style of functioning and his narrative while criticising leaders of other parties have come under the scanner. This has increased further after he became the Chief Minister in December 2023.
In August this year, Munugode Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, known for speaking his mind, appealed to the Chief Minister to cut down on long speeches and focus more on administration.
“People are hating the Chief Minister for his arrogance and harsh language towards the opposition,” Rajgopal Reddy said while speaking to media persons. The video of the MLA is circulating on social media.
A section of leaders is also expressing concern over the Chief Minister’s attitude and its possible impact on the party’s prospects in the future.
“The Chief Minister wants to grab media attention by attacking the opposition with strong words. In the process, the party’s interests are being affected,” observed another senior leader.
Though such remarks may be seen as part of political strategy and narrative, leaders feel that after a point, they will invite serious discussion. Going by recent developments, it appears to be only a matter of time, he added.
