Revanth Reddy’s remarks evidence of growing political insecurity: Harish Rao
BRS leader T Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government had failed farmers by not implementing key promises, criticised its handling of irrigation and agriculture, and claimed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's remarks on power reflected growing political insecurity.
Karimnagar: BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao on Wednesday termed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s contradictory remarks on remaining in power as evidence of the latter’s growing political insecurity. He said the Congress government had failed across all sectors during its 30-month rule, with the biggest failure being the implementation of promises made to the farming community.
“Revanth Reddy remarked that power was not permanent, while simultaneously expressing confidence of remaining in office till 2034. These contradictory statements are a clear indication of his fear of defeat,” he said.
Addressing the BRS cadre during a meeting on party enrolment and Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Karimnagar on Wednesday, Harish Rao said the ruling Congress had betrayed farmers by not implementing key poll promises aimed at benefiting them. He said the ruling Congress owed nearly Rs 30,000 crore under the Rythu Bharosa scheme alone, while it had failed to ensure effective implementation of the comprehensive farm loan waiver.
He also accused the government of denying crop insurance benefits to thousands of farmers, delaying fertiliser supply and failing to provide adequate support to the agriculture sector when it was needed.
The former Minister said the Congress government had failed to deliver bonus payments for paddy procurement and criticised inadequate power supply to farmers. He also accused the government of neglecting irrigation despite sufficient inflows into the Godavari basin. “At present, around 20,000 cusecs of water are being released into the Godavari River at Medigadda barrage,” he said.
Demanding immediate action, he urged the government to operate the Kannepalli pump house and utilise the water available at Medigadda to fill the Annaram, Sundilla, Yellampalli, Mid Manair and SRSP reservoirs to safeguard standing crops. He alleged that political considerations were preventing the optimal utilisation of irrigation infrastructure created during the previous BRS regime.
Harish Rao ridiculed the Congress government for organising “Rythu Ashirvada” meetings after evading payment of Rythu Bharosa for three instalments and the Rs 500 bonus for paddy during the recent Yasangi (Rabi) season, besides destroying farmers’ lives with poor supply of irrigation water and power. He stated that Revanth Reddy was harassing farmers, forcing them to beg for seeds, fertilisers, irrigation water and even procurement.
The BRS leader also used the meeting to outline the party’s organisational strategy ahead of future elections. He asked booth-level workers to actively participate in the ongoing voter enrolment and verification process, cautioning them to ensure that no eligible voter was left out. He advised party workers to coordinate with migrant voters, youth attaining voting age and families residing outside their native villages to complete enrolment before the deadline of July 24.
Recalling Karimnagar’s role in the Telangana movement and the BRS’ political journey, Harish Rao said the erstwhile district had remained a stronghold of the party since the statehood agitation. He asserted that the BRS would continue to strengthen its grassroots network through booth-level committees, terming booth agents the party’s backbone and the foundation for future electoral success.
