Kodangal: In a clear attempt to woo women ahead of the gram panchayat elections, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday virtually spelt out the Congress strategy, appealing to women to wear Indiramma sarees and support the party in the upcoming polls. The remarks came with the State Election Commission expected to release the panchayat elections schedule in the next three to four days.
Speaking after laying the foundation for Akshaya Patra’s Mid-Day Meals kitchen building here, he urged people to elect capable individuals as sarpanches rather than those who, he claimed, obstruct Kodangal’s development.
He directed the Narayanpet and Vikarabad District Collectors to ensure that Indiramma sarees were delivered to the doorstep of every woman. “Sporting these sarees, women should cast their vote in favour of those recommended by ‘Anna’ and those supporting development. If women support then automatically everything will fall in place,” Revanth Reddy said, adding that sarpanch elections were key for Kodangal’s progress.
The Chief Minister claimed that farmers were voluntarily parting with their lands for the Kodangal–Narayanpet Lift Irrigation Project and for industrial parks at Lagacherla. He said nearly 95 per cent of farmers had agreed to part with their lands for the irrigation project despite losing their crops. After Cabinet approval on Tuesday, works would be expedited within three months and the project completed within three years, he said.
He also claimed that after discussions with farmers, 3,000 to 4,000 acres had been voluntarily handed over in Lagacherla, Hakimpet and Polepally areas for the establishment of industries. “Like Noida in New Delhi, Kodangal will emerge as an industrial hub in Telangana. By 2034, MLAs from across the country should come here to study development,” Revanth Reddy said.
