BRS working president KT Rama Rao criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s tenure as a “shameless chapter” in Telangana politics, attacking defections and governance failures, while praising BRS-backed candidates’ sweeping victories in Yadadri Bhongir gram panchayat polls

Hyderabad: Calling Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s tenure ‘one of the most shameless chapters of political degeneration in Telangana’, BRS working president KT Rama Rao stated on Thursday that the ruling party was bent upon normalising defections as a survival tactic and thereby undermining democratic values.

Addressing a felicitation event for newly elected BRS-backed sarpanches, deputy sarpanches, and ward members at Yadadri Bhongir district party office, he singled out defected MLAs, including senior leader Kadiyam Srihari, stating that they had bartered long-earned respect for political gain.

“At the age of 70, years of hard-earned respect have been bartered away by sitting in Revanth Reddy’s lap,” he remarked, adding that people were rapidly recognising the “reality” of Congress governance and responding with strong support for BRS at the grassroots level.

Holding Revanth Reddy squarely responsible for the state of affairs in the administration, he criticised the government for fostering vindictive politics.

Targeting Revanth Reddy for his leadership style as well, Rama Rao said the State was governed through exaggerated rhetoric and hollow promises, including stalled schemes like Rythu Bandhu farmer support and unfulfilled pledges on gold schemes and pensions. Referring to violent attacks on BRS workers in erstwhile Nalgonda district, he condemned the murder of BRS activist Mallaiah Yadav in Nuthankal mandal and assault on a BRS candidate in Nalgonda. Such incidents, he argued, reflected a dangerous mindset encouraged by the regime. Additionally, officials manipulated recounting in over 150 villages to deny BRS of its victories, he said, vowing action.

Earlier, hailing the success of BRS-backed candidates in gram panchayat polls in Yadadri Bhongir district, Rama Rao asserted that the party was right on track to regain its glory. The success would help infuse new enthusiasm and serve as the foundation for future victories in the district. He emphasised that the district, where BRS lost power two years ago in the Assembly elections, was now leading the party’s resurgence. “As elders say, where we lost power, that’s where we must reclaim it. Today’s Sarpanch election results are giving us that boost,” he remarked.

He highlighted the party’s impressive performance, with BRS-backed candidates winning 161 Sarpanch posts across the district, including 56 in Bhongir, 74 in Alair, 15 in Munugode, 9 in Thungathurthi, and 7 in Nakrekal constituencies. Praising the victories as no ordinary feat despite facing challenges, he expressed confidence that with the blessings of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy of Yadadri, the pink flag would flutter high again. He said the splendid performance in gram panchayat polls gave the party ranks “the strength of a thousand elephants” Statewide.

Launching a scathing attack on the Congress rule, Rama Rao likened it to “abandoning a cow that gives milk and bringing in a bull that kicks”, accusing the government of distorted politics and failures. He called on party workers to prepare for the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections, predicting an unstoppable victory backed by people’s strength as in the case of the recent panchayat polls.
