Jagtial: The Congress government seems to have decided to obstruct the public meeting to be addressed by the BRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao scheduled to be held in Jagtial on April 20.
On the occasion of senior Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy joining the party, BRS decided to conduct a huge public meeting in Jagtial.
In a bid to prevent the party workers and people from Korutla, Metpalli and adjacent Nizamabad district from attending the meeting, officials have begun to dig up the road in the name of taking up culvert expansion works on the outskirts of Jagtial town.
A narrow culvert across a tank on National Highway 563 was proposed to be expanded. Works had not begun yet, but officials have now decided to take up the works by closing the road between Jagtial and Korutla.
The culvert expansion works after digging up the road were taken up despite repeated appeals from Korutla MLA Dr K Sanjay Kumar to postpone works for a few days.
People travelling from Korutla to Jagtial would now have to travel five to six kilometres extra as they have to take a detour via the bypass road to reach Jagtial town now.
Commenting on the development, Sanjay Kumar said that the works of digging up the culvert were taken up only to stop people from attending the meeting to be addressed by Chandrashekhar Rao’s meeting.
Party workers and other people from Korutla and Metpally have to travel five to six kilometers additionally to reach the public meeting site. Considering this, Dr Sanjay had appealed to the authorities to take up the works a week later, but his request was not heeded.
Terming it as ‘cheap politics’ of the Congress government, the MLA said that party workers were determined to attend the public meeting and they were even ready to reach the meeting on foot.
