Roads turn death traps in Telangana’s Karimnagar

While road safety awareness programmes are being held across the State, people continue to die in road accidents

Karimnagar: Despite awareness programmes to reduce road mishaps, accidents are continuing in the erstwhile Karimnagar district.

While the road safety awareness programmes are being held across the State, people are still dying in road accidents. About 40 persons lost their lives in the last 35 days in different accidents in the erstwhile Karimnagar district.

The latest was when woman Sub-Inspector Swetha died in a mishap near Chilvakondur, Gollapalli mandal of Jagtial district on Tuesday. Besides the SI, a bank employee Naresh, who was travelling on a bike, also died in the accident.

In another incident, a police constable Ajmeera Kalyan Naik (29) died in a road accident in Nizamabad on January 29. A resident of Garjanapalli of Rajanna-Sircilla, Kalyan Naik was working as a constable in TSSP 7th battalion, Dichpalli. He met with the accident while returning home.

Most of the victims are youngsters and people below the age of 40 years. Violating traffic rules while driving vehicles is being cited as one of the main reasons for the accidents. Even well educated people are also not following rules, officials said.

According to official statistics, on an average, about six accidents took place and two died every day in 2024.
