Hyderabad: Finance Minister T Harish Rao here on Monday said that it was the Telangana government which conducted 10 lakh marriages of poor girls in the country through Kalyani Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes. An outlay of Rs. 2750 crore was being proposed towards Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak scheme, he said.
“This is a record in welfare sector. For the conduct of marriage of the daughter, the government gives a financial assistance of Rs.1,00,116 to her mother. The beneficiaries of Kalyani Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes and their families are thankful to the government for assistance. The blessings of these families are the source of eternal strength,” he said.

Child marriages were prevented after the age limit for Kalyani Lakshmi programme was fixed as 18 years. This was confirmed in the research work done by the NGOs.
