Adilabad: People faced inconvenience following disruption of public transport services caused by an indefinite strike launched by employees of Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) demanding the government to address a list of problems across erstwhile Adilabad district in particular remote villages of this region from Tuesday midnight.
Residents of interior villages were seen waiting at bus stations for public transport services at villages and mandal centres covered by the TGRTC since early morning. They claimed that they trekked long distances to reach the bus stations and were left with no option but to keep waiting for TGRTC buses to visit towns and mandal centres for various needs including consulting doctors.
The villagers were relying on private vehicles such as auto-rickshaws, trolleys, tractors and jeeps, shelling out huge fares for travelling. Some of the people who were financially strong hired cars and vans to reach their destinations. Women who were benefited by the free travel scheme introduced by the Congress government were irked by the strike. They said that the strike caused a financial burden on them.
Sources said that a major portion of buses were confined to bus depots in Adilabad, Nirmal, Kumram and Mancherial districts due to the strike. Police personnel were deployed at the gates of the depots to prevent untoward incidents. Local police officials requested outsourced drivers to operate buses in certain places to reduce the adverse impact of the strike.
However, people from all walks of life expressed displeasure over the disruption of the services. They requested the government to resume the services and avoid inconvenience.
