Video: Ruckus erupts in Jogulamba Gadwal over protocol involving Congress MP and BRS MLA
A protocol dispute at a development programme in Paipadu, Jogulamba Gadwal, led to a confrontation between Congress MP Mallu Ravi and BRS MLA Vijayudu. The clash, triggered during a traditional coconut-breaking ritual, escalated when Ravi allegedly pushed aside Vijayudu.
Jogulamba Gadwal: Tension prevailed at Paipadu in Vaddepally municipality on Tuesday after Congress MP from Nagarkurnool, Mallu Ravi, allegedly pushed aside Alampur BRS MLA Vijayudu over a protocol issue.
The Congress MP, along with other party leaders including AICC General Secretary Sampath Kumar, arrived at the venue to participate in several development programmes. As the local MLA, Vijayudu also reached the venue along with BRS leaders.
As part of the tradition, leaders were breaking coconuts at the venue. As per protocol, the Congress MP was garlanded and asked to break a coconut. Subsequently, the BRS leaders wanted the local MLA to perform the ritual, but Congress leaders reportedly insisted that he would get his turn only after other Congress leaders.
Angered by this, the BRS leaders objected and demanded that protocol be followed. In a video circulating on social media, the Congress MP is seen pushing aside the local MLA Vijayudu and allegedly asking, “Who are you?”
Sensing trouble, the police intervened and made the BRS leaders step aside. Raising slogans, the BRS leaders later left the venue.
Later, when the Congress MP was scheduled to participate in five development programmes at Ieeja, the police took the BRS leaders into preventive custody. After attending one programme, the Congress MP skipped the remaining events and left midway. The BRS MLA also skipped the programmes and rushed to the Ieeja police station to secure the release of BRS workers.
“Misusing power, the Congress leaders are suppressing the BRS leaders’ voice and threatening them. All this is being done by claiming that Congress is delivering Praja Palana. The police too are favouring the ruling party and arresting the BRS leaders,” Vijayudu said.
As a mark of protest, the MLA said he had skipped participation in the development programmes.
