Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader P Sabitha Indra Reddy on Thursday shot off an open letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, questioning the rationality behind trifurcation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into three corporations.
Calling the decision irrational and unilateral without consulting elected representatives and people, she questioned the basis for including urban areas in Maheshwaram, Rajendranagar and Ibrahimpatnam Assembly constituencies into separate corporations.
“Were geographical, administrative or population criteria followed, or were decisions taken at will?” she asked.
In her letter, Sabitha Indra Reddy raised objections to the proposed allocation of areas. She sought to know why localities Rajendranagar, Bandlaguda and Shamshabad which were close to Cyberabad and areas like Badangpet, Tukkuguda and Meerpet adjacent to Malkajgiri were not regrouped accordingly, but retained in GHMC. She also pointed to the imbalance in the proposed structure, with 150 divisions in GHMC, 76 in Cyberabad and 74 in Malkajgiri.
“The State government must clarify the rationale behind the distribution. Was it only for administrative convenience or done with any political motives?” she questioned.
The senior BRS MLA accused the government of going back on its earlier stand in the Assembly that there was no proposal to merge suburban municipalities into GHMC, but later carried out the merger.
She said the fresh trifurcation and redistribution of these areas were creating unnecessary confusion that could affect administrative stability in Rangareddy district.
Demanding an immediate rethink, Sabitha Reddy urged the government to undertake a rational and equitable division after public consultation, and not impose decisions that could increase administrative burden.
Meanwhile, BRS leaders staged protests against the proposed merger of urban areas of Rajendranagar constituency areas with Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, following the division of GHMC. Party cadres burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister and demanded that the government withdraw the decision and seek public opinion before proceeding further.
