Hyderabad: Sharing a ‘Telangana Today’ report on how Kancha Gachibowli deforestation would impact temperatures in the area, Tollywood actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu extended support against clearing biodiversity rich land in Kancha Gachibowli.

Taking to Instagram, Samantha posted the Telangana Today report – Absence of forests will increase temperature from 1-4 degree C in Hyderabad’s Kancha Gachibowli: Ecological heritage report – link, along with an online petition that requests to roll back the land auction decision.

As per the petition started by Kirti C, who resides next to the forested land, auctioning the land will directly imperil the rich biodiversity, and indirectly, peoples life.

“Famed for its eco-diversity, Kancha Gachibowli, is not just a forest, but a green lung, a natural sink making significant contributions to the overall air quality and ameliorating climate change impacts. By absorbing vast amounts of carbon dioxide, forests are crucial in our fight against global warming,” it read.

The petition, which already has 97,740 signatures, strongly requested the concerned authorities to roll back the proposed auction of Kancha Gachibowli forest land by TGIIC. “Safeguarding our environment is not just an ethical commitment but a survival imperative,” it said and asked more to join the petition.

The State government recently decided to auction the 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli and started clearing the trees besides levelling the land as part of pre-auction process.
