Sammakka-Saralamma mini altars fetch income of Rs.31 lakh in Mancherial
The Sammakka-Saralamma mini-altars in Mancherial earned Rs 14.67 lakh from devotees during the biennial fair. With additional revenue from tenders, the fair generated Rs 31.19 lakh and attracted over two lakh devotees

Mancherial: The mini-altars of forest deities Sammakka and Saralamma, installed on the banks of the Godavari river in the town, registered an income of Rs 14.67 lakh. Counting of hundials at the mini-altars of the biennial fair was conducted on Saturday evening.
Endowment officials said the altars earned Rs 14.67 lakh through offerings donated by devotees, while tenders to commercial establishments and eateries fetched Rs 16.52 lakh. The fair helped the Mancherial Municipal Corporation and the Endowment Department earn a total of Rs 31.19 lakh. The two departments jointly organised the fair.
Over two lakh people from different parts of the district, including coal miners, thronged the altars from Thursday to Saturday. They worshipped the deities by performing special prayers. They sacrificed chickens, while a section of devotees presented bonam, rice grains, bangles and jaggery for their well-being and for the fulfilment of their wishes.
