Sangareddy: Sangareddy town is reeling under a serious drinking water shortage, as several parts of the town are not receiving drinking water at all. Due to the lack of water in the Manjeera dam, the Sangareddy municipal authorities stopped operating the drinking water filter bed located at Rajampet, close to the dam, a few days ago. Explaining the municipality’s challenges during the district-level review meeting in Sangareddy on Monday, Municipal Commissioner M Srinivas Reddy said the town, which has 22,163 households, requires 12.5 MLD of water per day.

The Municipal Commissioner said the stoppage of the filter bed operations had created a shortfall of 7.5 MLD per day. He said they were receiving some additional water from Mission Bhagiratha to meet the drinking water needs of the old town, which has no alternative source of drinking water. Reddy said they were making all-out efforts to supply drinking water on alternate days to most residents. In addition to the existing 241 borewells owned by the municipality, he said 30 borewells had been dug. The Commissioner said they were also planning to drill 50 more borewells to meet the drinking water needs in the coming days.
