Sangareddy-Patancheru: A Nightmarish journey for road users
Traffic congestion on the Sangareddy-Patancheru stretch of NH-65 has worsened amid road-widening and flyover works. A 23-km journey now takes up to two hours during peak periods, with incomplete service roads and culverts hampering efforts to divert traffic

Sangareddy: The lack of planning by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the contractor executing the NH-65 works, including road widening and construction of flyovers, is leading to constant traffic jams.
During peak hours, the 23-km journey between Sangareddy and Patancheru is taking anywhere between one and two hours, compared to less than 30 minutes earlier.
Even though there is considerable scope to ease traffic congestion on the highway by taking up the construction of service roads on either side on a priority basis, there has been no effort in this direction.
While citizens are struggling every day, officials are also contemplating imposing traffic diversions shortly to complete the remaining road works. Citizens have urged the NHAI, contractor and other concerned officials to complete the service roads first so that traffic can be diverted onto them until the main road works are completed.
The NHAI had followed a similar approach while constructing the flyover at BHEL Junction, where traffic was managed by building service roads on either side.
Later, the NHAI took up the 31-km-long road-widening works from Madeenaguda to Sangareddy, where multiple road underpasses and flyovers were also being constructed. However, the works have been progressing at a snail’s pace due to a lack of planning.
While the service road works have been completed from the BHEL flyover to ICRISAT, the construction of culverts remains incomplete at multiple locations, blocking the movement of traffic.
The contractor has also failed to take up the construction of service roads on either side of the highway from Muthangi to Sangareddy. There are also multiple culverts on either side of the highway from Patancheru to Sangareddy. However, their construction remains incomplete, creating a major hurdle to completing the service roads and diverting traffic onto them.
Traffic has eased wherever the construction of service roads has been completed.
Industrialist P Chandu Kumar urged the government to speed up the works so that employees can reach their workplaces on time and students can get to colleges and schools without delay.
The project costs Rs 1,400 crore, and the deadline for completing the works is March 2027. However, there is little scope for the NHAI to complete the works before the set deadline.
