Sangareddy: Sheri Tanda, which became well known after it elected Lamabada women in Gram Panchayat election to become the only village to do so in the State, celebrated International Women’s Day in a special way by planting over 100 saplings.
Sarpanch Samka Bai Keluth told Telangana Today that they invited over 50 women from the village to take up the plantation on Monday. Stating that 15 different varieties of saplings were planted in Prakruthi Vanam, created in an acre of the land on the outskirts of the village, Samka Bai said they have planted over 800 saplings in the Prakruthi Vanam so far.
Since it is the only Gram Panchayat being administered by an all-Lamabada Tribal women in Telangana, District Collector Sangareddy M Hanumantha Rao adopted the village after a report was published in these columns two years ago. With the help of the Collector and Narayankhed MLA Mahareddy Bhupal Reddy, Panchayath Secretary Shiva Lakshmi said they took up a number of developmental works like laying CC Road, side drains, gram panchayat building, installing LED lights, building boundary wall for Angandwadi Centre, renovation of primary school and several others.
To keep the village clean and green, Samka Bai said the GP conducts Shramadhan every Sunday and ensures that all the youth and women participate in the programme.
To honour their work, the villagers organised a felicitation programme for the women today. The village elders feliciated Samka Bai, MPTC Sunitha, Panchayat Secretary Shivalakshmi, upa sarpanch Mukta Bai, ward members Doli Bai,Tamni Bai, Sajani Bai, Lakshmi Bai, Devili Bai, Khini Bai, and Chandrakala. The village, which was upgraded into a panchayat two years ago, was put on growth path by the elected members of the panchayat within two years.
