Sankar Foundation hospital in Vizag tops in free of cost eye surgeries

Visakhapatnam: Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital in the city has performed the highest number of free surgeries under YSR Arogyasree and Kanti Velugu.
During the current year 2021-22, the hospital made a good beginning by performing 3343 free surgeries so far, despite no surgeries conducted during the first two months–April and May due to Covid second wave, according to Managing Trustee and CEO of Sankar Foundation, KBN Manimala.
The hospital has 16 full-time experienced specialists and 17 junior medical professionals in all sub-specialties to treat all kinds of eye ailments, she said.
Last year, 6385 free eye surgeries including 2815 under Dr. YSR Arogyasree and 3570 under Dr. YSR Kantivelugu were performed. She also said that the hospital’s outreach team, in coordination with paramedical ophthalmic officers in the three north districts, were going into the interior rural and tribal villages and picking up the identified cataract patients for free surgeries.
“We are proud to declare we have completed over 3.5 lakh eye surgeries on July 3 this year, of which 77 per cent are done totally free of cost to the
patients,” Manimala said.
