Hyderabad: Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod on Tuesday asked the officials concerned to collect all the details about orphans residing in State-run homes and private hostels across the State to chalk out a comprehensive policy to help them on all fronts.
Since every child should reap the benefits of the proposed policy, officials must collect details of every orphan child in the State. The Minister said Covid-19 had shattered many families and several children were rendered complete orphans after the death of their parents due to the virus.
Participating at a State-level meeting organised with officials to elicit their views before preparing the policy, she said the State government has taken various steps for the welfare of orphan children. “The State government has placed the onus on us to give suggestions for preparing the policy without thinking about financial constraints. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to play a role by giving suggestions to the government in chalking out the new policy,” Satyavathi Rathod said.
“Since the State government has decided to take up the responsibility of orphan children, what will be the situation of orphans once they complete 18 years? Whether the 18 years rule should continue… Give valuable suggestions to us,” the Minister said.
“Suggestions should be given in such a way that it should lay a right path to the children,” she said, adding that Anganwadi teachers would also play a crucial role in collecting details of the orphan children.
Complimenting officials concerned about foiling child marriages at different places in the State, the Minister advised them to stop them before the families make arrangements for the marriage. This would also reduce the unnecessary financial burden on the families, she added.
